>>2001 DERBY CANDIDATE
BRED AT MONKSGRANGE<<
MR. COMBUSTIBLE, a 3yo colt by Hernando out of Warg,
won the Gr3 Chester Vase in May to put himself in the
Epsom Derby picture. Bred at Monksgrange, and sold at
Goff's Orby Sale 1999, MR COMBUSTIBLE is one of four
Derby candidates in training with Barry Hills. Barry
has been quoted as saying 'he really liked the way Mr
C. won the Vase.' The horse is a half brother to MILETRIAN
who won a Gr2 and Gr3 race last year and continues in
training with Mick Channon. He is targeting the major
Cups races for her, and she should be seen in the Ascot
Gold Cup Gr1 in June.
Further early season success was the maiden win by Pearly
Gates. She is by Night Shift out of Pearl Shell. Unraced
at 2 due to niggling injury, she won well at Newbury
and 3 of those behind that day her have since won. Pearly
Gates ran in a Listed race on Saturday at Lingfield
and was just touched off close to the line. It was a
good run and we hope to see her name in lights this
season. Pearly Gates made £110,000 at the Goff's Orby
Sale 1999. We have yet to see Esyoueffcee, by Alzao
out of Familiar, out this season. Her final run last
year as a 2yo was a 2nd in a Listed race in soft ground
which she didn't like. She should win a black type race
this year.
Foaling has finished on the farm, and we have foals
by Soviet Star, Mark of Esteem, Kahyasi, and City Honours
among our crop. Among the yearlings, we like the look
of our Octagonal filly out of Familiar, and a Bluebird
colt out of the Shernazar mare Majakerta. She is closely
related to the dam of listed winner LETHAL'S LADY who
was 3rd in the French 1000 Guineas Gr1 this year.
The recent Ra Ora Stud Dispersal Sale in Auckland, New
Zealand, featured some connections with Monksgrange
Stud. Anemone Garden, by Dancing Dissident out of Abergwrle,
was bred here and was a Listed placed winner in Ireland
before a trip to the USA where she won an allowance
race. She then went to Australia and finally to New
Zealand. Scotch Pebble, a mare from the great family
of Octagonal etc., was also sold at the sale; she is
the dam of our mare in New Zealand - Kimberlite, an
unraced Pip's Pride mare. She has a Kaapstad yearling
filly and returns to Kaapstad this coming season. We
are inbreeding to Klairessa, dam of Eight Carat who
is a multiple Gr1 producing mare. We keep our New Zealand
horses at The Oaks Farm, owned by Terry Jarvis and managed
by Rick Williams. Terry's mare Hill of Grace ran 4th
in the recent big Gr1 race in Singapore won by Luca
Cumani's horse.

Our big news is MILETRIAN's success at Royal
Ascot in June when she won the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes.
Trained by Mick Channon, she was ridden by Michael Roberts.
She now has the Yorkshire Oaks in sight, and will have
a birhgt future as a broodmare.

April 2000
Foaling has finished for the season and we have a lovely
Octogonal filly out of Fimiliar, and a Night Shift filly
out of Pearl Shell. Our National Hunt mares have produced
colts by Topanoora and Eirn's Isle.

October 1999
The farm has had a very good result at the 1999 Goff's
Orby Sale. Results are posted on our Sales Page. We were also thrilled
with Miletrian's performance in the
Gr1 Prix Marcel Bousac where she finished
4th, cruelly caught for third on the line. She has a
bright 3yo future.

During
August PARKSIDE, by Common Grounds out of Warg, and
half brother to the Hernando colt offered at this
years Orby Sale, won his maiden ridden by John Reid
and trained by Willie Muir.
OUR AMBITION, raised and grazed at Monksgrange, and
bred by Larry Stratton, continued his promising 2yo
career. He has now won his maiden and been Listed placed.
MILETRIAN, halfsister
by Marju to Parkside (a winner at 3), is now a winner
herself at 2 and looks a promising 3yo.

In March 1999 CLIFDON FOG (by Darshaan,
out of Lake Mist ) won his first start as
a chaser at Wexford. This was followed by
a good win at at the PUNCHESTOWN FESTIVAL
at the end of April.Sadly he broke a
shoulder in his next start and was put
down.
"Cliff"
was bred by Don Brown of Bloodstock
Breeding P/L (Australia) and he was
foaled and raised at Monksgrange.
A winner
at 2, and 4th in the Group 1 National
Stakes, he turned to hurdling at 3 and
was 2nd in the Group 2
Denny's Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown.
He won 3 starts over hurdles and was 3rd
in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

CLIFDON FOG
Winner at Punchestown.
Ridden by Tommy Treacy |

At the 1999 Goffs Landrover Sale we sold
a 4yo gelding by Erin's Isle out of
Copper Breeze; the dam is an unraced
daughter of Boro Penny, and a half sister
to three winners. An athletic individual
with a good temprament, he showed himself
well and achieved a price of 21,000
guineas.
Our early
foals have been weaned and all of them
are doing well. There are colts by DESERT
KING, ROBELLINO, TOPANOORA and KAYASHI,
and fillies by ZAFONIC, MARJU and
OCTAGONAL.

Our mares
have been covered by OCTAGONAL, NIGHT
SHIFT, MUJADIL, TOPANOORA and ERIN'S
ISLE.

Do call
back soon to keep up to date with the
latest news from Monksgrange.
